Honourable Mention: The Way It Is – Bruce Hornsby
10. Most of the Time – Bob Dylan
Too often forgotten, most of the time.
.
9. Uptown Girl – Billy Joel
Provocatively upbeat (no wonder it plays so much in ‘The Boys’).
.
8. Super Trouper – ABBA
Some of the better chorus harmonies you’ll hear from ABBA (and in general).
.
7. Fast Car – Tracy Chapman
Devastating lyrics and cute guitars.
.
6. Sweet Child O’ Mine – Guns N’ Roses
The most iconic electric riff, ever.
.
5. Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) (2018 Remaster) – Kate Bush
Yes, I heard this for the first time in Stranger Things. Yes, I overplayed it for the entire summer that followed. Yes, it still belongs on this list.
.
4. I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For
An emotionally charged intro that never lets up.
.
3. Gypsy (2016 Remaster) – Fleetwood Mac
Words can’t describe the serotonin this gem brings.
.
2. Where The Streets Have No Name (Remastered) – U2
The greatest song intro, ever. The greatest album intro, ever.
Unfortunately, it is often overshadowed by its album counterparts.
I owe many debts to The Edge.
.
1. Man In The Mirror – Michael Jackson
All we can do is try to be better, and that’s all this song is telling us.
Jackson’s pop classic is well-regarded for its lyrical message, but its sonic elements are criminally underrated in the song’s ability to evoke introspection.
